NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Karlov was killed by a gunman at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara on Monday. Three other people were also injured in the attack. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the incident an act of terrorism.
"India strongly condemns the tragic assassination of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkey…. There can never be any justification for violence and terrorism," the statement read.
The ministry added that New Delhi was deeply saddened and shocked by this "dastardly act" adding that it shared pain and grief of Karlov's family.
