KIEV (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian government will close on its offering of a $1 billion sovereign bond guaranteed by the United States later on Thursday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said.
"Today we will approve the decision put forward by the Finance Ministry regarding the issuance of the sovereign bonds with the US guarantees worth $1 billion and thus Ukraine will receive the money by the end of this month," Groysman said.
Last week, the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) executive board approved a $1 billion tranche of a loan to Ukraine, even though the country has been unable to settle its $3 billion debt with Russia.
In March 2015, the IMF approved a four-year program of financial aid to Ukraine, which stipulates a $17.5-billion loan to be paid out in a number of installments over the next four years and open for reviews on a quarterly basis.
