    Valery Melnikov, a Sputnik news agency photojournalist, has won the Magnum Photography Awards 2016, a prominent competition that attracted submissions from over a hundred countries.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Sputnik photojournalist Valery Melnikov has been announced a winner of the Magnum Photography Awards 2016, a prominent international award that attracted submissions from 127 countries.

    Melnikov's name was published Thursday on the list of 44 photographers from around the world who have been chosen by the international jury. The Russian photojournalist was acclaimed for his photograph titled "At the Last Second."

    Melnikov has won numerous prestigious photo awards. He has been either the winner of or shortlisted for many international contests, including Pictures of the Year International 2016, Sony WAP 2015, Days Japan International Photo Journalism Award 2015, China International Press Photo Contest 2013, 2014 and 2015, Vilnius Photo Circle 2015, Professional Photographer of the Year 2014, KOLGA TBILISI PHOTO 2015, and Silver Camera 2013.
