WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State John Kerry told Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi that the United States is committed to helping Egypt defeat terrorism and boost economic growth, the US Department of State said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Secretary Kerry also stressed the importance of Egypt's role as a regional partner and reiterated US commitment to help Egypt fight terrorism, increase economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions and bolster regional security," the statement noted.
Kerry and Sisi also discussed regional issues such as the conflict in Syria and the ongoing tensions in Libya, according to the State Department.
Last month, Kerry pledged to continue the dialogue with Sisi to help Egypt overcome its significant economic and security challenges.
In 2015, Kerry delivered an address to the Egypt Economic Development Conference in the resort town of Sharm el Sheikh, where he encouraged US and foreign businesses to invest in Egypt.
