The time dictates the need to consolidate all countries' efforts in the fight against terrorism and, first of all, against Daesh, a senior Russian official said.

ASHGABAT (Sputnik) — Russia calls for the creation of an international tribunal for the terrorists, as well as the elaboration of measures to prevent terrorist organizations’ funding, Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matvienko said Saturday.

"We call for measures to prevent the financing, arms supply of misanthropic activities and in the long term to agree on international legal proceedings against the terrorists and their accomplices, similar to Nuremberg [Tribunal], so that this never happens again," Matvienko stated, speaking at the international conference ‘Neutrality policy: international cooperation for peace, security and development’ held in Turkmenistan.

According to the lawmaker, the time dictates the need to consolidate all countries' efforts in the fight against terrorism and, first of all, against the Islamic State (IS, or Daesh in Arabic) extremist group, whose activities are prohibited in Russia.

International terrorism jeopardizes the future of the entire civilization, Matvienko warned, adding that the recent tragic events have convincingly demonstrated nobody can feel safe.

"They [extremists and terrorists] have in their plans to promote their expansion into new regions. After the Middle East, the Central Asia falls into the sight of the terrorist organizations, strengthening their positions in Afghanistan," the Federation Council speaker stressed.
