Last week, the US Defense Department said it would provide 25,000 troops, an unprecedented number, to support the Biden inauguration on Wednesday in the wake of the January 6 Capitol riots.

Sputnik comes live from Washington DC on Monday, 18 January, as a rehearsal for the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Joe Biden is set to take place.

The rehearsal was originally scheduled for Sunday but was postponed because of security concerns, according to media reports.

The inauguration will be held on 20 January and is expected to take place under increased security in the wake of the storming of the US Capitol building by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump.
