Live Updates: Special Counsel Mueller Testifies Before Congress Amid Testimony Limits Controversy

In April, former US Special Counsel Robert Mueller issued the final report on the investigation over alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, concluding that there was no collusion.

Former US Special Counsel Robert Mueller is publicly testifying this Wednesday before the US House of Representatives Judiciary and Intelligence Committees regarding the Russia probe, as lawmakers and the Justice Department grapple over what can be disclosed during the session.

On Monday, the Justice Department sent Mueller a letter saying it expects him to limit his testimony to what is already publicly available in the report on the investigation into alleged Russian meddling and collusion with President Donald Trump’s campaign.

The same day, US President Donald Trump slammed Mueller for agreeing to testify in Congress after concluding the investigation, saying his testimony will not yield any new information.

Mueller's final report, released in April, concluded that there was no collusion between the US president's campaign and Russia - allegations that have been consistently denied by Russia and Trump, who called the probe "a political witch hunt".

"My understanding of it was (I was) not applying for the job, I was asked to give my input on what it would take to do the job," Mueller told the U.S. House Judiciary Committee at a hearing. "I interviewed with the president ... it was about the job, but not about me applying for the job."

When asked if his investigation found the Russian government perceived a benefit if one of the candidates won, Mueller responded positively and added that the benefit would come from Trump.

"The finding indicates that the president was not exculpated from the acts that he allegedly committed," Mueller said in the opening minutes of a closely watched hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.

"Second, the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government in its election interference activities. We did not address 'collusion,' which is not a legal term. Rather, we focused on whether the evidence was sufficient to charge any member of the campaign with taking part in a criminal conspiracy. It was not," Mueller continued.

Former US Special Counsel Robert Mueller emphasized during testimony to Congress on Wednesday that his Russia investigation did not uncover evidence of any conspiracy between President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russian government.

"The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government in its election interference activities," Mueller told lawmakers.
