Businessman Carl Icahn said in a letter to President Donald Trump that he could no longer act as a special advisor on regulatory reform.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Icahn said he would stop advising Trump because he does not want partisan fighting over his role to cloud the administration or the new Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs and that contrary to what Democrats have said, he has not profited from his advisory role.

"This will confirm our conversation today in which we agreed that I would cease to act as special advisor to the President on issues relating to regulatory reform," the letter said on Friday.

"[T]he only issues I ever discussed with you were broad matters of policy affecting the refining industry. I never sought any special benefit," Icahn added.

In May, Eight Democratic Senators asked multiple federal agencies to launch an investigation into possible insider trading and market manipulation by Icahn.
