WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US military will be able to test defenses against short-range guided missiles by shooting at a single stage rocket that has been successfully demonstrated, the aerospace company Orbital ATK announced in a press release on Wednesday.
"Orbital ATK has been at the forefront of providing low cost targets and we anticipate this market as a growth area," Orbital ATK Technical Services Division Vice President John Pullen said in the release.
The recent test of the Zombie Pathfinder rocket, launched from the White Sands Missile Range in the US state of New Mexico, demonstrated the upgraded single stage model, the release noted.
The target features a new configuration representing a different class of threats that the US military is likely to face in combat, according to the release.
