WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Trump’s November 8 victory was made official earlier Monday when he passed the threshold of 270 electoral votes and ended up with 304, two fewer than expected due to the defection of two Republican Party electors in the state of Texas.
"Today marks a historic landslide victory in our nation’s democracy," Trump said in Monday’s statement. "I thank the American people for their overwhelming vote to elect me as their next President of the United States."
Trump lost the national popular vote to Democrat Hillary Clinton by nearly 3 million ballots.
