Raytheon to Develop F-16 Combat Aircraft Fifth Generation Mission Computers

The US Air Force has selected Raytheon to develop and produce a new F-16 combat aircraft Modular Mission Computer Upgrade (MMCU) which will provide more than two times the current processing power and 40 times the current memory, equipping pilots with near-fifth-generation aircraft computing power, the defense company said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — It serves as the foundation for potential new advanced sensors and capabilities for the USAF F-16, including next generation weapon systems, the release added.

"Based on commercial technology, Raytheon's MMCU combines multi-core processing and cyber security features with next generation high-speed computing and high-speed data networks," the release explained.

The MMCU will deliver capabilities to combat emerging threats alongside fifth-generation fighters well into the future, the release added.
