There was only one suspect in the attack at the Ohio State University, who was shot dead after ramming into pedestrians with a car and attacking them with a butcher knife, chief of police at the university Craig Stone said during a news conference.

"About 9:52 am, a male suspect drove a vehicle over the curb… struck pedestrians. He exited the vehicle, and used a butcher knife to start cutting pedestrians," Craig Stone said as quoted by AFP.

"Our officer was on scene in less than a minute and he ended the situation in less than a minute. He engaged the suspect, and he eliminated the threat," he said.

Nine people are inkured and one is in critical condition, Stone said.

The attack at could be considered an act of terrorism, OSU Public Safety Director Monica Moll said during a press briefing.

"I think that we have to consider that it is a terrorist attack." Moll stated. "We are always aware of the potential for a terrorist attack and that's why our federal partners are here."

Earlier in the day, the Ohio State University (OSU) in the town in Columbus was attacked with ten people sustaining injuries. Earlier reports indicated that there was an active shooter situation at the university. OSU campus police lifted the previous shelter in place order and the campus is currently secured.

Earlier reports suggested that there are two suspects in the attack, however, Craig Stone refuted the claims.

The school says suspect is 18-year-old Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a Somali refugee, studying in the university.
