A Texas state trooper was shot on Friday afternoon by what appears to be a stray bullet from a gun battle wagged across the border on the territory of Mexico, according to a media.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The trooper was shot as he was patrolling an area near the Rio Grande River, which serves as the US-Mexico border, the newspaper Monitor reported.

Eye witnesses said a gun battle was occurring on the Mexican side of the border at the same time the trooper was shot in the leg, the report noted.

Witnesses also said the gun battle involved the Mexican military, the report added.

The trooper was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
