WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In a statement, Rogers said it was time to turn over responsibilities as national-security adviser to the incoming administration to Vice President-elect Mike Pence and "the stellar new leadership team," according to media reports.

"I look forward to continuing to provide advice and counsel as needed to the incoming Trump administration as they work to make America great again," Rogers added in his statement.

CNN, citing sources close to the transition team, reported that internal disagreements have emerged between establishment Republicans and “nontraditional influences” over national-security matters.

Rogers, a former chairman of the House of Representatives’ main intelligence committee, has been considered a leading contender to head the Central Intelligence Agency in Trump’s administration.
