WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US government has a responsibility to its citizens to work together under the new administration of President-elect Donald Trump, House or Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement on Wednesday.
"After an election in which Donald Trump won the Electoral College and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, we have a responsibility to come together and find common ground," Pelosi stated.
Pelosi explained that the peaceful transition of power is an important aspect of the US democratic system.
She also praised comments Trump made in his victory speech about improving US infrastructure and jobs.
Donald Trump won the US election on November 8 with 289 electoral votes. His opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, won 228.
