WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – On Monday, the Russian Investigative Committee said that a US citizen had been detained in Moscow on suspicion of a sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl. According to investigators, the man assaulted the girl in an elevator of a residential building in southern Moscow on November 1, 2016.
"We have seen media reports of a U.S. citizen arrested in Moscow. In cases where US citizens are detained overseas, the Department seeks to visit as soon as possible and works to provide all appropriate consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment," the official said in a statement.
The detainee will soon be questioned, according to the Russian Investigative Committee.
