Press coverage of the US presidential campaign between Democratic nominees Hillary Clinton and her Republican rival Donald Trump has been a constant source of frustration, President Barack Obama said at a Clinton campaign rally in the state of Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "I’m not running this time, but I sure do get frustrated with how this campaign is covered," Obama stated.

Obama served as a stand-in for Clinton, who canceled at least two days of campaign appearances while recovering from what her personal doctor diagnosed as pneumonia.

"Our standards for what’s normal have changed and Donald Trump says stuff every day that used to be considered as disqualifying for being president," Obama explained. "And yet, because he says it over and over again, the press just gives up."

The bottom line is that the United States cannot afford to treat the presidential campaign like a reality show, the president added.
