CLEVELAND (Sputnik) — Trump announced Pence as his choice to be vice president via Twitter only three days before the Republican National Convention got underway on Monday.
"I am deeply humbled by your confidence and on behalf of my family and under God, I accept your nomination to run and serve as Vice President of the United States of America," Pence said.
Trump greeted Pence on stage at the end of the former congressman's speech.
In a self-deprecating moment, Pence, a more traditional candidate with experience inside Washington, joked that he was chosen as a counterbalance to Trump.
"Trump is a man known for a large personality, and a colorful style and lots of charisma, and so I guess he was just looking for some balance on the ticket."
The Trump-Pence Republican ticket for the November general election was made official on Tuesday. Donald Trump is scheduled to give the headline address on Thursday, the final day of the Republican convention.
