WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The charges against Brown and Simmons include conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, theft of government funds and filing false tax returns.

Brown appeared in court on Friday for a hearing to learn the charges against her.

The Democratic congresswoman from the state of Florida has insisted she did nothing wrong, and is currently running for re-election in November.
