Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said that the Walt Disney Company has donated $1 million to the One Orlando Fund established to assist victims of the Sunday shooting at a club in Florida.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The Walt Disney Company has donated $1 million to the One Orlando Fund established to assist victims of the Sunday shooting at a club in Florida, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said in a Twitter message on Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dyer announced the One Orlando fund to raise money to help families of the victims in what has become the largest mass shooting in US history.

Orlando is home to Walt Disney's World Resort entertainment complex also known as Disney World.

On Sunday morning, a 29-year-old US citizen, Omar Mateen, opened fire in a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 people and wounding 53 others before police eliminated him.

Of the original 44 patients originally brought to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, 27 remained as of Tuesday morning, according to a doctor at the hospital. Of those, six were in intensive care.

US President Barack Obama is scheduled to travel to Orlando on Thursday.
