WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States should not put the blame for the mass shooting in Orlando on any specific religion, US Secretary of State Kerry said on Monday before his meeting with the foreign minister of Cyprus.
"The worst thing we can do is engage in trying to point fingers to one group or one form of sectarianism or another, one religion or another, those are not the values of our country," Kerry stated.
Moreover, Kerry said the State Department will continue its deep engagement in the fight against Daesh.
"We will continue to stand up for our values which are the antithesis of what drove yesterday’s horrible events," Kerry noted.
Early on Sunday morning, a shooter identified as US national Omar Mateen, opened fire in a crowded gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida killing 49 people and injuring at least 53 others. The 29 year-old shooter was previously investigated by US law enforcement for possible ties to terrorist organization.
