US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton outperformed Bernie Sanders at the Puerto Rican Democratic primary, winning roughly 60 percent of votes.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — With almost 60 percent of ballots counted, Hillary Clinton claimed victory over Bernie Sanders at the Puerto Rican Democratic primary.

"We just won Puerto Rico! ¡Gracias a la Isla del Encanto por esta victoria! [Thanks to the Island of Enchantment for this victory!]," Clinton tweeted.

The figures published Sunday by the Puerto Rican Democratic Party put Clinton in the front with 59.54 percent of votes. Her key rival Sanders polled 37 percent of votes.

A total of 67 delegates are at stake in the US unincorporated territory. According to CNN, Clinton will not be given all of them. She remains short of the 2,383 delegates she needs to win her party’s nomination.
