WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama has been briefed on the US counter-Daesh campaign has directed the US National Security Council to ramp up efforts on all fronts, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters on Monday.
"The president directed his National Security Council to continue to intensify our counter-ISIL [Islamic State] operations across all military and civilian fronts," Earnest stated.
Daesh, outlawed in a number of countries worldwide, including Russia, controls large territories in Syria and Iraq, spreading its influence to North Africa and other regions.
The US-led coalition has been carrying out a campaign against the extremist group in Syria and Iraq since 2014.
