Biswal will also meet with members of civil society and local human rights organizations, the State Department noted.

The visit comes just days after Xulhaz Mannan, a US embassy employee, blogger and gay rights advocate, was murdered in the Bangladeshi capital.

The State Department has offered assistance to Bangladesh in investigating Mannan’s murder. His killing is the latest in a series of targeted killings by radical groups in the country.
