WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal will travel to Bangladesh this week to discuss security issues, the US Department of State said in a statement on Tuesday.
"While in Dhaka, the Assistant Secretary [Biswal] will meet with government officials to discuss the broader bilateral relationship and issues of shared concern regarding security," the statement said.
The visit comes just days after Xulhaz Mannan, a US embassy employee, blogger and gay rights advocate, was murdered in the Bangladeshi capital.
The State Department has offered assistance to Bangladesh in investigating Mannan’s murder. His killing is the latest in a series of targeted killings by radical groups in the country.
