US Senator Bernie Sanders has defeated his only challenger former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in all three Democratic presidential contests on Saturday after winning the Hawaii caucus, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to The New York Times newspaper, Sanders gathered support of 71 percent of Democratic voters during the caucus in the US state of Hawaii.

Earlier in the day, Sanders swept to victory over Clinton in the states of Alaska and Washington with some 82 and 73 percent respectively.

Despite Sanders' success in the three western states, Sanders is still behind Clinton, who has had more victories in Democratic primaries and caucuses.

The United States is expected to elect its new president on November 8, 2016.
