MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The billionaire presidential candidate was alerted to the man rushing the stage behind his back by screams from the public, just seconds before four Secret Service agents encircled him.
"Thank you for the warning. I was ready for them but it is much easier if the cops do it, don’t we agree?" he asked the cheering crowd after the intruder was tackled by police.
On Friday, Trump’s rally at the University of Illinois in Chicago was cancelled after violent clashes erupted at the venue about an hour before the event was scheduled to start.
Thousands of Trump’s supporters and opponents clashed on the arena floor and on nearby streets, where several injuries were reported.
Trump has been widely criticized for his inflammatory rhetoric and controversial statements, including in relation to immigrants, particularly from Mexico, Muslims, and women.
