The US President will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate who does not support common-sense gun reform.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama continues to promote his campaign to adopt gun control regulations, promising to vote against all 2016 US presidential candidates who oppose the proposed reform.

"Even as I continue to take every action possible as president, I will also take every action I can as a citizen. I will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate, even in my own party, who does not support common-sense gun reform," Obama wrote in The New York Times newspaper on Thursday.

Gun Lobby: 'Teachers, Janitors' Should Be Armed to Stop US School Massacres
Earlier this week, Obama announced a series of executive measures to expand background checks for gun buyers and toughen the enforcement of existing laws. The new regulations have faced widespread opposition, even though the United States has the highest rate of gun violence among any developed country in the world.

According to a recent CNN poll, 67 percent of US citizens voiced their support for Obama’s gun control regulations.

The United States has an annual average of over 32,000 gun-related deaths. In 2015, there were some 372 mass shootings around the country.
