US billionaire Donald Trump said he was committed to the Republican Party and would not run as an independent in the upcoming presidential election.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —  The next US presidential election is scheduled for November 8, 2016.

"I'm going to be a Republican, I'm not going to be doing a third party," Trump told CNN after Tuesday night's TV, adding "No matter what."

Thirty-eight percent of the Republican registered voters are currently likely to support Trump, despite his numerous controversial statements about Muslims during his presidential campaign, a survey conducted by the Washington Post and ABC News revealed Tuesday.

Last week, the current Republican front runner called for a complete ban of all Muslims entering the United States until a counterterrorism plan is established.
