Former Vice President Dick Cheney has been wrong to oppose the Iran nuclear agreement, State Department Director of Communications Marie Harf said via Twitter on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The 34-year-old Harf’s tweets were widely seen as a preemptive strike to discredit in advance a hard-hitting speech Cheney was scheduled to give later on Monday morning at the conservative American Enterprise Institute and criticize the Iran nuclear agreement.

"Wrong Then Wrong Now," Harf, a senior adviser to Secretary of State John Kerry, tweeted with a hashtag citing Cheney’s admission that he was wrong to advocate the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The State Department is seeking to expand its use of social media to defend Obama administration policies both to domestic critics and the global audience.
