A federal jury in Idaho's District Court has convicted a national of Uzbekistan on three of five counts of terrorism-related crimes.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A federal jury in Idaho's District Court has convicted a national of Uzbekistan on three of five counts of terrorism-related crimes, the US Department of Justice said in a statement Wednesday.

"Fazliddin Kurbanov conspired to provide material support to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and procured bomb-making materials in the interest of perpetrating a terrorist attack on American soil," Assistant Attorney General Carlin was quoted as saying in the statement.

According to evidence presented at trial, while residing in Boise, the capital city of the US state of Idaho, Kurbanov used to communicate online with individuals operating a website for the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), considered a terrorist organization in the United States.

The 33-year-old informed the website administrator of his desire to build a bomb to launch an attack against the United States, the statement said.

Kurbanov was arrested in May 2013 after special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation observed the bomb-making components in his apartment during a court-authorized search.

The trial lasted for 20 days, whereas the jury has pondered over the verdict for two days before announcing it.
