A gunman who opened fire in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, was found dead by police at the scene, where two suspected explosive devices were also discovered, The Los Angeles Times reports.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The armed man had fired two shots in the air and two shots toward the ground on Friday afternoon before the arrival of law enforcement officers who ordered him to drop the weapon, the newspaper said. The man raised his gun instead and police shot several times.

The Los Angeles Times cited Det. Meghan Aguilar, a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spokeswoman, as saying that it was unclear whether the man died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted wound.

No other deaths or injuries have been reported.

A metal cylinder and a black briefcase were found on the ground close to the gunman. Both of the suspected explosive devices were detonated by a robot, according to witness reports cited by the newspaper. A witness told The Los Angeles Times that the gunman was in his 40s or 50s.

The incident occurred along Ventura Boulevard near Vantage Avenue in Studio City, which is an LA neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley. It comes after the Thursday shooting at The Grand Theatre in Lafayette, Louisiana, where John Houser, a white 59-year-old man, opened fire shooting dead two women and injuring several other people before killing himself.
