MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Los Angeles police (LAPD) found a stash of 1,200 firearms and roughly two tonnes of ammunition while investigating an unidentified man’s death in an affluent Pacific Palisades neighborhood, local media reported early Tuesday.
LAPD spokesman Andrew Smith said the amount of weapons was "staggering." "Our truck couldn't carry it all… We had to go back and make another trip," he told the Los Angeles Times.
The arsenal included an assortment of firearms from pistols to rifles and shotguns, all strewn around the man’s home and garage. Some weapons had not been taken out of their boxes and had price tags on them.
Police said it was not a crime to keep an arsenal at home, but they needed to check whether it was purchased legally, according to the outlet.
Officers stumbled upon the stash after they found the man’s decomposing body in his car down the street from his house last week. They said the investigation had found there had been no foul play.
