MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Texas police officer, who pushed a black girl to the ground at a pool party, has resigned, his attorney said on Tuesday.
On Friday, Eric Casebolt wrestled a 15-year-old African-American teenage girl to the ground and pointed his gun at unarmed teenagers at a party at the Craig Ranch North Community Pool in McKinney, Texas. The encounter, captured on video and published online, prompted citizen outrage.
Jane Bishkin, Casebolt’s attorney, told local WFAA TV channel that her client decided to resign following a meeting with the internal affairs unit of the McKinney Police Department to review potential charges Casebolt could face.
Following the incident, the McKinney Police Department placed officer Casebolt on administrative leave on Sunday, while hundreds of peaceful protesters rallied in Dallas on Monday, calling for Casebolt to be fired.
Police brutality and racial profiling continues to be an acute social problem in the United States. The issue has made headlines as numerous, sometimes violent, protests have swept the country amid a string of police killings by white officers of primarily unarmed African-American men.
