A Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) police officer was found fatally shot in New Orleans.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) police officer has been found fatally shot in a HANO vehicle in the southeast US Louisiana state's largest city, local media reported on Sunday.

The unidentified officer's car was found in the Central City neighborhood near the famed French Quarter, according to local CBS affiliate WWL-TV citing the New Orleans Police Department.

HANO has the same authority to respond to calls, make arrests and enforce laws as the New Orleans and Louisiana police departments.

The outlet says officers found the driver's window broken before discovering the HANO officer inside the cruiser.

    The incident is under investigation.
