Sixth Person Dies After Train Derails in Philadelphia

Another passenger of the train crash in the US city of Philadelphia has died, raising the death toll to six people, CNN reported Wednesday, citing a doctor at the local Temple University Hospital.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Eight others are still in a critical condition, the doctor added.

“We can only confirm we have six deceased,” Philadelphia Mayor Mike Nutter said in a press conference.

On Tuesday night, Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188, carrying 238 passengers and five crew members en route from Washington, DC to New York City, derailed and rolled onto its side.

On Wednesday morning, Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter said at a press conference that over 200 officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were involved in the search and rescue operation.

Federal investigators stated later in the day that terrorism was an unlikely cause of the deadly accident, according to CNN.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
