MOSCOW (Sputnik) US police arrested at least 34 participants in a march against law enforcement violence after demonstrators crossed New York City's Brooklyn Bridge, causing traffic disruptions at evening rush hour on Tuesday, according to US media.

The number of arrested protesters is expected to increase, as Brooklyn and Manhattan police reported overnight arrests as well, the Police Department’s chief spokesman said as quoted by the New York Times.

Several police officers were reportedly assaulted during the protest, including one punched in the face and another struck by a bottle. Witnesses told of scuffles between police and demonstrators, who were said to be throwing objects at officers.

The march attracted about 400 protesters and was organized by the Stop Mass Incarceration Network, a project by the Alliance for Global Justice, to stop "the injustice of mass incarceration and police brutality.
