US House of Representatives to Vote on Bill Eliminating Nazis Benefits

WASHINGTON, December 2 (Sputnik) – The US House of Representatives will take a vote on a bill Tuesday that will prevent suspected Nazi war criminals from collecting US Social Security benefits, according to the House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy website.

The main purpose of the bill is "to amend the Social Security Act to provide for the termination of social security benefits for individuals who participated in Nazi persecution."

Should the bill, also known as "No Social Security for Nazis Act," be approved, it will have to get a senatorial approval and be signed by US President Barack Obama to become a law.

On November 19, US bipartisan lawmakers introduced legislation to terminate Social Security benefits for Nazi war criminals who receive them because of a loophole in current law.

"Due to a loophole, some Nazis who came to America continue to receive Social Security benefits. That is just plain wrong! This bill would stop these Nazis from continuing to receive Social Security," US House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Sam Johnson said after the introduction of the bill.

In October, the Associated Press (AP) investigated that millions of US dollars in Social Security benefits have been provided to Nazis who fled the United States before they could be deported. The AP probe uncovered information which indicates that since 1979 a minimum of 38 of the 66 suspects who separated from the United States kept their benefits.
