The UN Committee against Torture urged Washington to fully investigate and prosecute all instances of police brutality.

MOSCOW, November 29 (Sputnik) — The UN Committee against Torture has criticized the United States for police brutality and excessive use of force involved in the shootings of unarmed people belonging to certain racial and ethnic groups.

“The Committee is concerned about numerous reports of police brutality and excessive use of force by law enforcement officials, in particular against persons belonging to certain racial and ethnic groups, immigrants and LGBTI individuals, racial profiling by police and immigration offices and growing militarization of policing activities,” said the UN panel report released on Friday.

The committee urged Washington to fully investigate and prosecute all instances of police brutality and excessive use of force by law enforcement officers.

The report was released on Friday, just days a Missouri grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson in August. The decision triggered a wave of protests nationwide.
