US Republicans reportedly need to win only one more seat to control the upper house of US Congress.

WASHINGTON, November 5 (RIA Novosti) — US Republicans are tipped to have grabbed a Senator seat in the western state of Montana and now need to win only one more seat to control the upper house of US Congress, Reuters said on Tuesday.

So far, the GOP has won Democratic-held seats in Arkansas, Colorado, Montana, South Dakota and West Virginia.

Montana is the latest of Republicans' five gains. On Tuesday, Republican challenger Steve Daines wrested the Senate seat from Democrat Amanda Curtis and Libertarian Roger Roots.

Meanwhile, Senator Jeanne Shaheen has managed to hold on to her seat in New Hampshire, in what was one of the few positive happenings for Democrats in these midterm elections.

On Tuesday, Americans voted in the midterm elections. US midterm congressional elections are held two years in the middle of the president's four-year term. Voters decide who will fill all 435 seats of the US House of Representatives and 36 of the 100 seats in the US Senate.

The Republicans have a majority in the House of Representatives but are looking to also take control of the Senate, where the Democrats currently have a 55 — 45 majority.
