MOSCOW, November 4 (RIA Novosti) — New York City’s One World Trade Center has been reopened, with the 104 story Freedom Tower defiantly taking the place of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed 13 years ago during the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
The revived One World Trade Center opened for business on Monday, and is now bigger and better than ever, the New York Daily News reported.
The media firm Condé Nast’s 3,400 employees began moving into their offices in the Freedom Tower, which has been built over the last eight years at a cost of $3.9 billion. The Freedom Tower is the tallest office building in the United States. When the building’s antenna is taken into consideration, it is the tallest all-office building in the world, as well as the fourth-tallest skyscraper. Plans exist for the construction of an observation deck on its top floor.
“The New York City skyline is whole again,” Patrick Foye, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said, speaking to the press on Monday.
“This is a terrific day for Lower Manhattan, a wonderful day for New York City, and a great day for Condé Nast,” New York Daily News quoted the company’s CEO Chuck Townsend as saying.
The Freedom Tower is the central building of a complex of over 16 acres and includes a memorial and museum dedicated to the victims of 9/11.
