England has been under a lockdown three times in a bid to curb spiking coronavirus cases, with the other devolved nations introducing their own rules. Prime Minister Johnson previously signalled that he intended the third lockdown to be the last.

Sputnik is live from the UK House of Commons where Prime Minister Boris Johnson is addressing legislators on the government's strategy to pull England out of its third lockdown.

The current restrictive measures were announced on 5 January as a means to curtail the growth of infections, complicated by the emergence of a new highly contagious COVID variant.

Under the rules, people are urged to stay indoors unless they need to go outside for essential purposes or exercise.

However, mass vaccination across the country has given a glimmer of hope the lockdown measures could be eased or completely scrapped.
