Russia’s head coach Fabio Capello’s employment contract with the Russian Football Union has been canceled by mutual agreement, the Russian Football Union press-service said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, a source told R-Sport that Capello's resignation had been satisfactorily resolved, and he would receive approximately 15 million euros [$16.5 million] in compensation.

Capello, who is the former Juventus, Milan, Roma and England manager, began working with the Russian Football Union in 2012. During his tenure, the Russian team qualified for the 2014 World Cup, the first qualification in 12 years, but did not win any games during the event.

The relations between Capello and the Russia Football Union have become increasingly strained over poor results of the national team, including a home defeat to Austria in the Euro-2015 Qualifier in June.
