SOCHI, February 17 (R-Sport) – Britain is one win away from the Sochi Olympic women's curling competition semifinals after beating host Russia 9-6 on Monday.

The Britons, skipped by world champion Eve Muirhead, need to best Denmark in the Monday evening session to follow Canada and Sweden into the last four at the Ice Cube Curling Center.

Anna Sidorova’s Russia ended its campaign on a disappointing 3-6 win-loss record, missing out on the first country’s curling medal at the Winter Games.

With Britain still not home and dry, the situation in the standings is complicated. Two semifinal berths remain open, and three other teams can lay claim to them: Japan, China and Switzerland.

All three are on a 4-4 record, making the evening session decisive. Japan faces already qualified Sweden, while China meets Switzerland.

Elsewhere, Korea destroyed United States 11-2, although both teams are already eliminated.

The semifinals will be held on Wednesday, while gold medal game is scheduled for Thursday.
