The Russian basketball team snatched victory from Spain to finish first in their group before the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic.

The Russian basketball team snatched victory from Spain to finish first in their group before the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic.

Russia's Becky Hammon was the lead scorer of the match and she scored 10 of her total 27 points in the final quarter to bring her team the victory.

"It was a tough game. Spain is a very good team but we played hard and did a good job at minimizing our mistakes," the official Website of the championship quoted Hammon as saying after the match.

"I am proud of my team... Our goal was to finish top of this group and it feels very good," she added.

The Russian women, who are the 2006 vice champions, won all of their six games in Brno finishing first in their group and will face the team from Belarus in the quarterfinals in Karlovy Vary on October 1.

The other pairs in the quarterfinals are the United States-Korea, France-Spain and Australia-the Czech Republic.
