Donald Trump makes the controversial appointment of General Flynn as National Security advisor; and OPEC nations get ever closer to a deal which would see a cut in oil production.

Today's main headlines:

President-elect Donald Trump has offered the job of national security adviser to retired director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, General Michael Flynn. We ask what Flynn’s appointment might mean for the Trump administration.
 
OPEC nations have been suggesting for sometime that an across-the-board cut in oil output is needed to stabilize dropping global prices… This week, Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro said that OPEC was ready to implement a “forceful” agreement on cutting output following talks in Caracus.
 
Does fracking cause earthquakes?  It’s been contentiously debated for years but new evidence suggests that the controversial gas extraction can cause quakes that rumble on for months.  Liam O’Hare talks to Refine, an international research consortium on fracking, to try to understand this better.
 
It’s been billed as Obama’s “last supper”; the outgoing US President has held his final meeting with some EU leaders today, urging them to continue to press ahead with the transatlantic agenda in the new Trump era under the presidency of Donald Trump.  But how will that work, given the fairly open hostility towards Trump’s candidacy from Europe?
