Earlier in the day, Trump’s transition team confirmed his intention to nominate Tillerson, the head of ExxonMobil company, for the post.
"We welcome this as a decision of the US president-elect. As [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin repeatedly stated, we are ready to work with any partners who are interested in developing equal ties with Russia," Lavrov told a press conference.
Lavrov also said that Moscow hopes that pragmatism will be a good base for building of Russia-US elections under President-Elect Donald Trump.
"I think that both president Trump and the new state secretary were not opponents to development of our relations, on the contrary. These people are pragmatic. We expect that this pragmatism will be a good basis for building mutually beneficial relations from the points of view of both Russia-US interaction and resolution of international problems," Lavrov told a press conference.
