US Congress Passes Bill to Extend Iran Sanctions Over Next Decade
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Unite States should not consider any additional sanctions relief for Iran after the November 8 presidential election, US House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a letter to President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

"We urge you not to take any action that would weaken United States or multilateral sanctions or other restrictions against Iran in the post-election period," the letter, co-signed by US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Ed Royce and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, said.

The House Republicans urged Obama to avoid taking any steps that could boost international investment in Iran or otherwise change the existing sanctions framework.

"President-elect Trump deserves the opportunity to assess United States policy toward Iran without your administration imposing or implementing additional measures," the letter said.

Iran and the P5+1 group of nations – the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Russia plus Germany – agreed on a gradual lifting of sanctions in exchange for Tehran keeping its nuclear program exclusively for peaceful uses. The agreement took effect on January 16, after the International Atomic Energy Agency officially confirmed Iran’s compliance with the deal’s provisions.
