China in Close Contact With US President-Elect Trump's Team
MADRID (Sputnik) — Spain and Portugal are both interested in establishing good relations with US president-elect Donald Trump, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa said during a press-conference.

"Trump was elected as a president since it was the decision of the US citizens, and we should congratulate him — we have already done this — and wish him success. Spain wants to have the best relationship with the US people and the person, that the US people would like to see as their president," Rajoy said.

Costa said that Portuguese administration had congratulated Republican candidate Donald Trump after he became the US president-elect and expressed hope to develop "close and friendly relationship with the United States both in economic field and in other spheres".

Rajoy noted that next year important elections would be held in Europe, namely in France and Germany, and expressed hope that the results of the US elections would not negatively affect the "project of united Europe".

On November 8, Trump won presidential election with 290 electoral votes against his rival Hillary Clinton's 232. The inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.
