BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — An informal meeting of the European Union's Foreign Ministers took place in Brussels on Sunday evening. The ministers were expected to discuss a wide range of issue, with a particular emphasis on the change of US foreign policy under President-elect Donald Trump.
"On Iran, let me tell you very clearly..this is not bilateral agreement, this is multilateral agreement, endorsed by the UN Security Council resolution. It is our European interest, but it is also a UN interest and duty to guarantee tht the agreement is implemented in fill, for the all duration of the agreement, and..we have, and I have personally specific role to guarantee that this is done by all sides, and for sue, this is a European interest… this is one of the key elements that will not change for sure " Mogherini told reporters, answering the question on the fate of the deal under the new US administration.
Earlier this year, Trump suggested he would dismantle the "disastrous deal with Iran," which he deemed "the worst deal ever negotiated," whcih raised concerns he might rip up the deal if became the US president.
In July 2015, Iran signed an historic nuclear deal with the P5+1 group of mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Under the agreement, sanctions, including embargoes on gas and oil trade, were lifted off Iran in exchange for compliance with safety guidelines on Tehran's nuclear program. The accord allowed Iran to resume its petroleum exports and implementation of a number of frozen projects in the sphere of energy.
