MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US Republican Party nominee emerged as a winner earlier on Wednesday as he gained 279 Electoral College's votes, which is more than the required 270 minimum. His Democratic Party rival Hillary Clinton secured only 218 votes.
"What I expect and hope for so much that relations between Russia and the United States would be in a better way. This is so important for Europe and for the whole world. May be, it would be possible if President Trump will get a better partnership with Moscow," Hofer said.
A solid friendly relationship with the United States under newly elected Donald Trump would be good for Austria, Hofer said.
"We would have to see how Trump works as a leader, for us it is important to establish friendly, good partnership to work together on business basis. Now we have to see what is going to happen in the upcoming months. We have to work on our friendship," Hofer told Sputnik.
European politicians should learn from the winner of the US Presidential election Donald Trump, including the importance of being sincere, Hofer said.
"We can learn from the elections in the United States. Trump was all alone, the media was against him, and even part of his party was against him. He made his thing and he won. You have to be authentic. I try to be authentic and try my way to make politics. What you can learn from it — you have to be authentic," Hofer told Sputnik.
In May, Hofer, the Freedom Party candidate, lost the presidential elections to independent candidate Van der Bellen. However, in July Austria's Constitutional Court ruled that ballots and voting results had been handled improperly and annulled the results. The rerun is scheduled for December 4.
